The profile provides information of all kindergartens and kindergarten-cum-child care centres registered with the Education Bureau (EDB) as at early July 2007.

Information of schools which have completed their registration after the above date will not be included in the profile of this school year.

The profile contains information of all schools being kept by EDB including school name, address, telephone and fax numbers, student category, number of permitted accommodation, non-profit-making/private independent status, approved school fees, number of students, number of teachers and their qualification, teacher to pupil ratio and whether operating child care services for children aged below 3. It also contains information provided by individual schools including names of supervisor and principal, school founding year, school website, school facilities, curriculum details, school characteristics, paid items reference price, monthly salary range and working experience of principal and teaching staff and school expenditure information. However, schools not joining the Pre-primary Education Voucher Scheme (PEVS) are not required to provide such information.

The profile is printed in Chinese and English. However, the text provided by schools is mainly in Chinese.

Schools will hold responsibility for the accuracy of information provided by them.
Some schools may have two records in the profile if they are offering both local and international curriculum streams.
The percentages shown in the pie-charts are rounded to the nearest integer.
Please take note of the following points when reading the profile:

  • Eligibility for voucher
It states whether the school is eligible for redemption of voucher in the 2007/08 school year. Schools joining the voucher scheme should offer local curriculum and charge a tuition fee not exceeding HK$24,000 per student per annum (pspa) for a half-day place and HK$48,000 pspa for a full-day place. Classes/courses eligible for redemption of voucher are stipulated in EDB’s approval.

    Non-profit-making Status
Non-profit-making school refers to the school being granted exemption from taxes by the Inland Revenue Department under Section 88 of the Inland Revenue Ordinance.

  • Professional Qualification of Teaching Staff
For every kindergarten principal/teacher, only one professional qualification most relevant to the job has been counted. The priorities are as follows: Certificate in Early Childhood Education or above, Qualified Kindergarten Teachers, other teacher trainings, Qualified Assistant Kindergarten Teachers and others.
Other teacher trainings: including Postgraduate Certificate/Diploma in Education, degree in education, Teacher Certificate.
Others: including teachers under training and untrained teachers.

  • Permitted Accommodation
‘Total No. of Permitted Accommodation of Classrooms in Use’ means the total number of school places provided by a school in the morning and/or afternoon sessions. Permitted accommodation of kindergarten-cum-child care centres include classes aged 2-3.

  • Quality Assurance Inspection Summary Report
The Profile only shows the summary reports uploaded to EDB website. If the item indicates ‘not available’, it means that the school hasn’t conducted the inspection or the inspection had been completed prior to the 2001/02 school year.

  • School Fees
The ‘Annual Fees’ table in the Profile shows the approved school fees for the 2007/08 school year. For schools joining the PEVS, the amount of school fee to be paid by parents on the top of voucher value, where applicable, is also shown. The table will also be hyperlinked to the Fees Certificate.
Even if approved school fees of different grades are listed in the ‘Annual Fees’ table, it does not necessarily mean that these grades will be operated by the school. Parents should approach the school direct to see if the school will operate these grade(s).
With the introduction of the PEVS, the Kindergarten and Child Care Centre Subsidy Scheme (KCSS) will no longer apply to kindergarten classes of kindergartens and kindergarten-cum-child care centres in the 2007/08 school year. There is a possibility that individual schools will add back partly or wholly the amount of subsidy received under KCSS in the 2006/07 school year to the tuition fee in the 2007/08 school year.

  • Paid Items
The reference price for learning materials does not include the price for textbooks and exercise books.
Enquiries about individual kindergartens and kindergarten-cum-child care centres may be directed to the School Development Officers of Regional Education Offices and the Joint Office for Pre-primary Services respectively. If you need detailed information, please approach the school direct.
Limited number of printed copy of the web version will be available in Regional Education Offices of EDB, Public Enquiry Service Centres of Home Affairs Department, Maternal and Child Health Centres of Department of Health, Integrated Service Centres of Social Welfare Department and public libraries for parents’ reference.
If there is any discrepancy between the printed and web versions, the web version shall prevail.
